Painting Pro Times, the source for paint professionals!

We are delighted to announce a new column: Color Selection. Like the Painting Pro’s Perspective and the Regulatory Review, each article will be produced for the benefit of industry professionals from the view point of paint and coating insiders. And just as we welcome contributors for the Perspective and Review, we are eager to publish guest submissions. Color Selection will feature important and up to date information that applicators need to know. This issue’s Color Selection is titled A Prime Concern and provides a compelling reason why paint and coatings specialists should re-awaken color know-how as a part of being a complete craftsman.

In your local market area, have you ever noticed that a few paint professionals by and large have the lion’s share of the best customers? Check out Leaving the Competition in the Dust to consider ways to attain and keep top clients. Also, we re-visited American Paint Manufacturers with an update from a couple of faithful readers. On the subjective of paint makers, Akzo Nobel, who recently limped away from the North American market has announced a new management plan. SpecialChem4Coatings.com reports that the corporate structure and operating model for the Decorative Paints business will be simplified making the organization more agile and competitive in Europe and other high growth markets.

My prediction is that PPG will surpass Akzo Nobel as the world’s largest paint manufacturer sooner rather than later.

In other industry news, Berkshire Hathaway has appointed a new Benjamin Moore & Company CEO, Michael Searles. Hopefully, this is the end to the beleaguered game of top gun musical chairs at the New Jersey paint manufacturer. Dunn-Edwards has introduced a new line of interior/exterior, waterborne acrylic zone-marking paint called Vin-L-Stripe Zone Marking Paint. The material is a water based alternative to solvent products. In really cool high-tech news, Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap Glass™ application takes putting together simple palettes on the run to a new, ultra convenient level. And Valspar has become the “Official Paint Supplier of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour”…play on!

Maybe by publication time the government will be back from a forced spring break, but in any case, the American Coatings Association has joined 235 organizations in urging Congress to pass a Continuing Resolution to ensure the uninterrupted funding of the federal government into the next fiscal year and to act expeditiously to raise the nation’s debt limit. And if you are wondering if commercial construction has an impact as substantial as new housing starts, the ABC cites a study that attributes a $10 billion economic mountain in the state of Alabama alone.

Thanks,
