Owners’ Group sues Painters’ Union

The Finishing Contractors of America (FCA), the national association of union owned painting companies and other signatory trades, has filed a lawsuit against the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). Apparently, the filing seems to involve a dispute regarding Labor Management Cooperation Initiative (LMCI).

The LMCI is a jointly administered fund for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) and the FCA. The idea of LMCI is to “foster and promote” better labor relations between the union and its employers. In addition, the LMCI was created to “enhance” market share for union contractors. The dispute seems to involve voting control of LMCI and the allocation of funds (money). Purportedly, there is approximately $12 million in the fund.

It appears that “relations” are strained; PPT will follow and report.
