Maybe there is a new type of virus going around?
Some of us at PPT are feeling exhausted. With increasing frequency, in the middle of typing away all happy and peaceful, it looks like a widespread case of sea sickness - complete with the cold sweat and dizziness. But we are not on a boat and none of us fish. It could be a seldom heard of condition that some psychologists refer to as the federal government anxiety complex. It starts the same way every time; recurring fuzzy mind pictures of Washington administrators wielding sharp spears and then the chase begins.
Painting Pro’s Perspective
Independent Contractors: The Double Standard
Have you worked as a subcontractor or sublet a part of a project or a compete job to or from another painting company? Most professionals are somewhat familiar with these arrangements. From the practical, real world point of view, there are logical reasons why contractors do not use employees on every job. It may be a challenging project schedule, production or equipment capacity, distant locations, and highly specialized or niche work that justifies the use of subcontractors.
A Cherry Paint Job
Since the mid 1980s, the “Spoonbridge and Cherry” sculpture in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden near the Walker Art Center (Figure 1) has been a symbol of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul). In February 2009, after more than 20 years of being perched atop a giant spoon, the 1,200-lb (544-kg) metal cherry was removed and taken to a local paint facility for a facelift.
