Painting Pro Times, the source for paint professionals!
The larger number of paint professionals work in the remodel or new construction markets. There are companies that specialize in pure repaints, although it is fair to say at some point, just about all architectural and industrial outfits end up on projects side by side with other trades. When the project scope is comprehensive and the paint and/or coating application is one part of the whole, it seems easiest to default to the sharp elbows, rough and ready approach.
Paint versus Gypsum Board
Is the problem with the paint material, the craftsmanship or the drywall? A patchy or uneven texture on freshly-painted new gypsum board might seem like the painter’s fault, but it’s often actually a drywall issue, and this can lead to great frustration for the customer, architect and the painting contractor.
Regulatory Review
New Jersey’s Governor, Chris Christie, Says No to PaintCare EPA Not in Compliance with RRP Rule
On Jan. 11, 2016 ACA’s PaintCare bill, AB 1603, passed the New Jersey Assembly by a 46-27 vote. The bill was pocket vetoed by Gov. Chris Christie on Jan. 19. A companion bill, SB 1420, “An Act Requiring Producers of Architectural Paint to Implement or Participate in a Paint Stewardship Program,” passed the New Jersey Senate on May 18 by a 26-7 vote.
Origins of Craftsmanship Paint in the 18th Century
It is important to recall that paint of the 18th and early 19th century was made from three basic ingredients – linseed oil as the vehicle, pigments as the colorants and turpentine as a dryer. These ingredients combined to create what we call oil paint. It was used primarily for the exterior of a building and assuredly in Newport for the painting of ships. Oil was also used on interiors, but not exclusively since water and milk based paints was used on interiors where oil’s resistance to weather was not needed.
