Painting Pro Times, the source for paint professionals!
If we did a nationwide search in the business world, construction market and professional paint/coating application industry, would we find any entrepreneurs pushing for bigger government? There are many articles on marketing, increasing sales, workforce development, and so on, but where are the authors saying that more taxes/regulations and higher compliance costs will expand the economy? Or encourage small business expansion and investment? Here is where to pay attention: Other than creating paper pushing/finger clicking, big brother cubicles, it is obvious: more regulations kill jobs.
The Successful Bid that Put the Contractor out of Business
Business is slow. Nothing is in the pipeline and there are a few jobs on the horizon. Then, miraculously, an RFP or proposal opportunity pops up. It’s right in your wheelhouse, although there will be many bidders. What to do? Cut your margin to the bone. After all, the company needs the cash flow. Without it, payroll may not be met and key employees may be lost. So the decision is made to lowball the project, submitting a bid with a mere one (1) percent profit margin.

Airless Spray Tips
In the first installment of Airless Spraying by Graco we discussed the characteristics of various coatings, a few key elements of airless application and described several production advantages. This chapter will focus on the proper sizing and use of spray tips.
Painters Business Agent Pleads Guilty in $1.5M Theft
When it comes to embezzling funds, third-party administrators can be as adept as anyone can. And thefts can go undetected for years. Just ask Painters union members in Hawaii. On January 27, Raymond Fujii, former executive director for a trade group, the Painting & Decorating Contractors Association of Hawaii (PDCA), pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii to one count of mail fraud in the amount of nearly $1.5 million against the PDCA and a related union-supported entity, the Hawaii Painters Trade Promotion & Charity Fund (TP&C).
Regulatory Review
NFIB Reform Agenda
The uncertainty caused by future regulation negatively affects a small business’ ability to plan for future growth. The National Federation of Independent Business expresses that while regulation is necessary, it must be pragmatic and sensible. Agencies must carefully analyze how their regulations affect small businesses. At the same time, federal regulators should work with small businesses to help ensure compliance with the spirit of the law, rather than aggressively impose fines and penalties for violations that result from confusion.
